Physiological Changes Within a Metalimnetic Layer of Oscillatoria rubescens.
Different depths within a metalimnetic layer of Oscillatoria rubescens were sampled, and changes in biochemical composition and photosynthetic rate were analyzed. Although differences in pigment and protein content were found, the photosynthetic rates of the samples were not significantly different.

Evolutionary physiological ecology. Optimum efficiencies of energy transformation in anoxic metabolism. INTRODUCTION The existence of Variation at the gene ievel is now accepted to be ubiquitous among species, although the extent of Variation is known to differ neutral theory of molecular evolution (Kimura, 1983) which assumes that the dominant forces underlying the dynamics of gene frequency c...
متن کاملSmoking Characteristics of a Homeless Population1
When addressing tobacco control and smoking cessation measures, the homeless have been perceived as a difficult to reach population. The purpose of this study was to examine the smoking characteristics of a homeless population. Data were derived from a larger study that examined smoking among inner-city residents. Homeless smokers (n = 107) were compared to nonhomeless smokers (n = 491) on soci...
متن کاملPhysiological ecology meets climate change
In this article, we pointed out that understanding the physiology of differential climate change effects on organisms is one of the many urgent challenges faced in ecology and evolutionary biology. We explore how physiological ecology can contribute to a holistic view of climate change impacts on organisms and ecosystems and their evolutionary responses. We suggest that theoretical and experime...
متن کاملPhysiological ecology of overwintering in hatchling turtles.
Temperate species of turtles hatch from eggs in late summer. The hatchlings of some species leave their natal nest to hibernate elsewhere on land or under water, whereas others usually remain inside the nest until spring; thus, post-hatching behavior strongly influences the hibernation ecology and physiology of this age class. Little is known about the habitats of and environmental conditions a...
